Match from the New Zealand Football Championship between the teams of Team Wellington and Wellington Phoenix II.

Team Wellington finished at Top 3 in this league in each of the previous two campaigns and is obvious that the hosts have same ambitions this season, as the club signed with several experienced players during the break in Fergus Neil (def.) from WaiBOP, Christopher Bale (midf.) from Waitakere, Mario Barcia (midf.) from Hawke’s Bay, Saul Halpin (midf.) from Hawke’s Bay, etc.

The hosts started the new season in a good shape, having won nine points from the previous four rounds, including six points from two games at this stadium against Waitakere on Nov. 29 (3-1) and Southern United last Saturday (4-1).

Joseph Dixon (midf. / 1 goal) will miss this match against Wellington Phoenix II, but Matt Calcott has no other problems with injured and suspended players.

Wellington Phoenix II is actually the reserve team of Wellington Phoenix, who competes in the Australian A-League.

This team is built entirely by young and inexperienced players, so it’s not a surprise that the guests are in the bottom half of the standings in this league, with only four points after five rounds (1-1-3 8/13).

In the matter of fact, these four points were won in the last two games against Waitakere (2-1/home) and Hawke’s Bay (5-5/away), but the guests have the worst defense in the league (13 goals) and I think that they will have big problems against a team with a powerful attack like Team Wellington.

In addition to that, Dylan Fox (def.) was sent off against Hawke’s Bay and will miss this match for Wellington Phoenix II, as well as top scorer Max Mata (midf. / 3 goals), who is injured.

It’s actually a derby game, but Team Wellington is the team with more experienced players and obviously in better form, so I think that the hosts are capable to win this match with more than one goal difference.
