Some are billing this as a relegation clash and when you look at the league table its not funny at all if you are a Chelsea fan.
They have lost 5 of their last 7 games and are nestled a little above the poorer teams in the division who will be in a relegation scrap all season long. They are the defending champions and team value pales in comparison to the teams they dwell among so this highlights just how poor they have been.
Rather fascinatingly, week after week we are dangled mediocre odds on teams like Chelsea (and Manchester United). These teams continue to be priced up as if it will be smooth sailing when they are at home.
Can anyone really back Chelsea at 1/3. I wouldn't and surely you shouldn't either.
You would have to set your calender all the way back to 2010 to find the last time a head to head game between these two teams that has seen Chelsea beat Sunderland by more than 2 goals.
Also, for this bet to lose, you would need Chelsea to score at least 3 goals, something they are yet to do in the Premier League at home this season. They did score 4 once this season but that was in the Champions League to whipping boys Maccabi in a 4-0 rout.
Sunderland has improved defensively under Big Sam and I don't see them conceding 3 goals here especially given Chelsea's attacking troubles. Of cours they are capable of scoring themselves too as Chelsea has been an absolute shambles at the back this season and I reckon any Premier league side who go to the Bridge with a positive mindset can score, even the lack of a positive mindset and you can still breach what has been a repeatedly poor defence by the Champions throughout the season.
In the last 5 Premier League games this bet wouldn't have lost for the Black Cats with the Gunners game seeing our stakes returned had we played this option and even then it was an injury time goal that added a bit of gloss to the score at the Emirates.
I could go on forever about how much I like this bet but there isn't any need. Don't have much team news to go on but I'm not sure Mourinho would be in charge come kick off and Hazard is a doubt. Posting this early so I don't get talked out of it later in my mind as the weekend gets closer. I do have some draws lined up as well but this is a bet I like very strongly and the chances of it losing are minimal given the level of security and I expect the price to shorten as well.
Definitely suggest the +1.5 Ah for Sunderland as a more pricey alternative.
