Netherlands vs France by AlQahira
In the first game of the quarterfinals at the Women's Handball World Championships France and Netherlands will meet at Kolding from 17:45 CET. Netherlands is a breath of fresh air in womens handball; a country without a great handball pedigree, without enjoying much publicity back home, only with a prodigious development program, dedication and work ethics this country has breached countless barriers. That's way Netherlands has now one of the most impressive teams at this WC even though they have a very young squad, with 14 of the 17 players having no more than 25 years, but many of them enjoying international recognition playing at the highest level: Broch and Groot in Gyor, Abbingh at Baia Mare, van der Heijden and Polman at Team Esbjerg, Malestein, Smeets and Wester at Bietigheim the leader in Frauen Bundesliga, Snelder at Thuringer and so on. Their backcourt is one of the most impressive at this competition with Groot, Polman Abbingh and van der Heijden.
France on the other hand has been far from impressive in Denmark, for me at least. They struggled in a poor group with the likes of Korea and Brazil, teams trashed in the R16. They seem to depend too much on Pineau (who has been on fire lately) but against Spain she wasn't at her best.
One could say that France is the team more accustomed with playing at this level, but many of the dutch players play at a higher level than the french ones. After seeing both these teams at this competition Netherlands is a clear favorite to me; maybe the "Oranje" will find it more difficult to deal with France's agressive defence but in the end for me this match can produce only one winner and that is Netherlands.
