Man City vs Gladbach by FP

Man-City
VS
Gladbach
Manchester City are going through a tough patch currently and have only managed to win two of their last six games, and have lose three out of their last five including a 2-0 loss away to Stoke on Saturday. Despite their recent form, manager Manuel Pellegrini will argue that his side are actually performing well as they are safely through to the semi finals of the Capital One Cup (where they have a great chance of lifting the trophy), are flying high in the Premier League just three points off the top of the table, and are already through to the last 16 knockout stage of the Champions League. Manchester City could still top their group with a win here, but would be relying on Sevilla to beat leaders Juventus for that to happen.

City have just welcomed back midfield maestro David Silva from injury and it will be good to see how he links up with fellow creative midfielder Kevin De Bruyne as they have not had much playing time together so far. Their attacking talent now looks formidable - Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne in a line of three behind the central striker will cause problems for any defence. Wilfred Bony looks like starting the game as star striker Aguero misses out with a foot injury. Yaya Toure is also a major doubt for the game leaving Fernando and Fernandinho as the two holding midfielders. Captain Vincent Kompany is also still absent for City.

Borussia Monchengladbach cannot qualify from the group and are really playing only for pride. They have the Europa League place secured assuming Juventus avoid defeat to Sevilla and come into this match on the back of a surprising 3-1 home win over the mighty Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga so will not be lacking for confidence. Manager Andre Schubert was given the job permanently after impressing in a spell as interim coach, and really has made a big difference - Gladbach's only defeat since was the reverse leg of this fixture which Manchester City won 2-1 at Borussia-Park.

As much as Gladbach have improved since Schubert took charge, the pressure is off for City here as they have already qualified and I think they are much the better of the two sides. I expect Manchester City to perform well and win this match comfortably in the hope that Juventus slip up. City beat Gladbach away from home so they will surely hold no fears for Pellegrini's men with home advantage. Top spot in the group is important as they would be more likely to avoid the bigger names in the last 16 - the last two seasons they have been eliminated by Barcelona after only managing second in the group - so they have to try and secure the top spot even though it may be unlikely that Juve will lose.

The only bet for me here is Manchester City to win the game.
