Mansfield vs Hartlepool by Hassy

Mansfield
VS
Hartlepool
As someone who lives closely to Mansfield they are a club I follow very closely. I have been to watch them a few times this season and their league table position does not belie their performances. Mansfield Town have enjoyed an excellent start to the new campaign and are sitting among the League Two play-off places ahead of the weekend game at Field Mill.

Adam Murray have a small squad that has quality throughout and has bought in players from divisions above.

Mansfield lost at home for the first team in their previous home match against Wycombe but it was totally against the run of play. Currently the Stags are struggling to hit the back of the net and keep missing chances and sooner rather than later the prolific Matty Green will start banging the goals in again. That said they have once of the best defensive records in the league which is marshalled excellently by the always improving Tafazolli. The towering former Salisbury centre-back has not only been in good form at the back but has weighed in with four goals as well.

Mansfield boss Adam Murray has no new injury problems to worry about after his players came through unscathed during Tuesday night’s FA Cup defeat at Oldham. However he will be able to welcome back Chris Clements if he so wishes after the midfielder completed a one-match ban in Tuesday's Emirates FA Cup First Round replay against Oldham Athletic.

Murray could again make changes to the side that turned out at the SportsDirect.com Park, with six changes made from the trip to Northampton the weekend prior.

Hartlepool’s 3-1 win over Leyton Orient live on Sky last Sunday was only their second league win since September. In that game they were extremely fortunate to win the game and the 3-1 scoreline definitely flattered them. They have also lost five of their eight games on their travels picking up only 9 points from a possible twenty four on the road. Their current form of two wins from a possible eight games both home and away is also alarming. Ronnie Moore will be without Billy Paynter who had an Achilles injury, while Michael Duckworth is hoping to recover in time after being stretchered off during the win over Leyton Orient.

Despite not scoring in the five games since beating Yeovil Mansfield have been playing well and it is only a matter of time before the goals start flowing again. They have lost only once at home and they will see this match as the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways. The loss of Painter is a huge one for Hartlepool so I cant see them bridging the solid Mansfield defence without him.
