Rafael Nadal vs Milos Raonic
Rafa Nadal 2015 is not as good as we knew him. But in this past weeks he's raising his onfidence and his gameplay.
4 good wins in Beijing and a game level much better than the score suggests in the final clash with Novak Djokovic, plus one win yesterday against a potentially tricky matchup in Ivo Karlovic just boosted Nadal's confidence before this meeting with Raonic. The spaniard is playing with no real goal for these weeks, no other then developing his gameplay and collecting good energy for a good 2016 start.
Meanwhile I finally understood Raonic's loss against Troicki and his tight win (7-6, 7-6) against Bellucci ... in a favourable matchup against Bautista-Agut he struggled more than expected due to some groin injury. I saw him in the first games with a tormented body language and the confirmation came after 5 games when he called the trainer for treatment. That particular part of the body is a bad one to feel pain in. His movement around the court is affected and as yesterday he tried constantly to shorten the points I expect Nadal to be more effective in getting longer rallies and moving the canadian than his fellow spaniard was. Raonic's firepower will not match this time Bautista's fragility but Nadal's physical force. As well, the big guy's inside-out forehand, efficient against Bautista's backhand will be better matched by Nadal's lefty forehand. I think it will be too much to overcome for Milos and we'll see the payback for their only previous meeting this year, the one in Indian Wells.
