Sweden vs Moldova by Hassy

Sweden will hope to have something to celebrate as they bring the curtain down on their Group G qualifying campaign with a home game against Moldova. Sweden, in third, need to win and hope second-placed Russia lose at home to Montenegro if they are to claim an automatic qualifying berth. However, they are assured of a play-off place; Moldova are certain to finish bottom. In the past Sweden have won all six of their games against Moldova and won the match 0-2 in this campaign earlier in the group fixtures.

Moldova’s 1-2 loss at home against Russia last Friday was their seventh defeat in nine Group G fixtures and they have only managed two points by virtue of draws against Lichtenstein and Russia.

Moldova have managed only four goals in nine in Group G. To make matters even worse some of their top players are injured and unavailable for this game so the things will are even harder for them. Among those injured players are – Alexandru Epureanu (team captain, 68 games – 8 goals for the national team), Petru Racu (36 games for the national team), Alexandru Suvorov (50 games – 7 goals for the national team), Eugen Sidorenco (24 games – 7 goals for the national team), Artur Ioniță, Denis Calincov. As a result, most of the starting 11 will be out and I just don’t see how a team as bad as Moldova can make up for those missing players.

I will tip Sweden to hammer Moldova and will go with them keeping a clean sheet in the process.
