Northern Ireland vs Greece by AlexisP
Competition: EURO 2016, Qualification
Ground: Windsor Park, Belfast
Manager: Michael O'Neill
It never qualified for a Euro Cup but it’s very close on doing so. It just needs to win this game. Nothing more than this. It got amazing results so far as it lost only against Romania in an away game. In fact, Northern Ireland needs to get just 2 points. In case of equal points with Hungary, Northern Ireland qualifies. The chances for not qualifying to the final tournament are very few. For the moment however, Northern Ireland has guaranteed a place to the play-offs. All footballers of the team except Aaron Hughes who got a transfer for Melbourne City play either in England or Scotland. We can understand that the majority of the players have much experience which is something that the team will need during the last 2 games.
Manager: Costas Tsanas (caretaker)
June 2014: Greece qualified to the round 16 of World Cup. After a very good game against Costa Rica where it deserved to qualify to the quarter finals it was eliminated after penalty shoot-out. Fernando Santos left the national team and Claudio Ranieri became the new manager of Greece. The poor results forced the Greek association to replace his with Sergio Markarián. The poor results continued and Markarián also left the national team. After 8 games Greece managed to get only 3 draws against Finland, Hungary and Romania in away games. It lost twice from Faroe Islands and lost at home from Romania, Northern Ireland and Finland. It conceded 8 goals and scored 2. The statistics show the truth about Greece. It got what it deserved so far. Greece is a team that during the last 12 years impressed the world. During the last year however it has the worst tournament that could ever have. Possibly there is too much pressure to the team. Many players play in top teams in Europe like Torosides (Roma), Samaris (Benfica), Mitroglou (Benfica) and Papastathopoulos (Dortmund). I don’t believe that they will give everything on this game where the target for the team is zero.
Prediction: Greece has not been able to find a good form and the team is found in very bad situation. Northern Ireland on the other hand is doing fine and needs the win in order to qualify to the final tournament. It lost only one game so far against Romania in an away game. The motivation is high for Northern Ireland as it wants to qualify for the first time in a Euro Cup. I think that Greece is unable to destroy the party of Northern Ireland. Windsor Park is expected to be fully packed and I believe that Northern Ireland will get the win and qualify. My choice is Northern Ireland to win this game.
