Cheltenham vs Braintree by Hassy

Cheltenham look to continue their campaign for a quick reintroduction to League Two when they face a Braintree side pushing for promotion from the Conference National themselves. Cheltenham's emphatic 7-1 victory over Halifax Town on Saturday really put a stamp on their promotion credentials. They were only leading 2-1 at half time, but a blistering second half performance saw them come away with a huge win. This was their 8th league win of the season, with four draws and two losses making up the rest of their 14 results.

This puts them in 2nd in the Conference National with 28 points so far, just one point behind league leaders Forest Green Rovers. Cheltenham have won four of their last six matches with wins over Dover Athletic, Macclesfield Town, Woking and Halifax along with a 2-2 draw away at league leaders Forest Green Rovers. The Robins’ overall home record stands at an impressive 5-1-1 12/5 despite losing last time out on home turf to Tranmere Rovers.

Since losing their opening two games of the season Braintree have regrouped and since then have only lost two of their following 12 games. There have been changes in the management of the club recently with former boss Alan Devonshire moving on and ex-Concord Rangers manager Danny Cowley has since replaced him.

This has brought about changes in The Iron’s fortunes as they’ve won four of their last seven matches, a run of form which has lifted them up into 6th place. Braintree have also improved on the road too where they’ve registered five wins already amidst an overall away record of 5-1-1 11/3.

However, Braintree have played top half opposition away from home twice so far this season and they’ll face perhaps their toughest test yet on their travels tonight.

Gary Johnson is a Championship manager plying his trade at Cheltenham and is starting to put his stamp on the first team which is being reflected in the clubs results. The 1-7 hammering at Halifax will ensure the players are flying and despite Braintree not conceding a goal in their last four away games I see this changing for the worse tonight.
