Romania vs Finland by Pinstripe
Romania have been extremely solid defensively. They have only conceded once in their eight qualifiction matches. They haven't been scoring much themselves either, but tight defending has brought them four wins and four draws. Historically Romania has always had an edge over Finland, boasting a 7-2-0 record.
Finland sacked their coach a few months ago due to bad results and are now managed by interim coach Markku Kanerva. The change in management hasn't improved the team very much despite two narrow wins in last two matches. Finland only managed to create one single goalscoring chance in their win against struggling Greece and the 1-0 home win against weak Faroe Islands wasn't any more encouraging. Finland simply lack quality, especially in attack. On Thursday they will be weakened by the absence of their only top class player Roman Eremenko (CM) due to a minor injury. Midfielder Tim Sparv who captained the national team in September will also serve a suspension against Romania. Attacking player Riku Riski is injured, too. Eremenko's absence is a major blow for Finland. With him and Riski out, Finland have almost zero creativity in their attack.
I simply cannot see lacklustre Finland scoring against Romania who have only conceded one goal so far in the qualifiers. Romania don't need to change their defensive tactics for this game - even a draw would keep them ahead of Hungary and on track for qualification before the last two rounds. Romania will most likely win, maybe 1-0 or 2-0 but I'll choose Romania clean sheet because I find it a bit safer and the odds are good.
