Lyon vs Valencia by FP
Both Lyon and Valencia have struggled so far this season in their domestic leagues and tonight represents a big test for both sides. Lyon have managed to win just one of their last five games in all competitions and lost 3-1 against Bordeaux last time out. Valencia got back to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 win over Grenada last time but are performing way below expectation after winning just twice in their first six La Liga games.
Lyon started their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw with Belgian side Gent, Valencia started with a 3-2 loss to Zenit St Petersburg. Both sides will be keen not to let Zenit St Petersburg go too far clear in the group (Zenit play Gent so look certain to pick up three points), and a defeat for either team will leave them with a lot of work to do if they are to qualify.
Right back Rafael and striker Fekir are major injury doubts for Lyon, Valencia are still missing a few squad players but have no new or major injury worries ahead of this match.
My opinion is that Valencia’s 1-0 win over Grenada on Friday night will have brought a sense of relief to the players and manager Santo, and I expect a better performance tonight than we have seen recently. Lyon are no world beaters and do not score many goals. It may prove to be a tight match, but I feel Valencia have more quality and will edge the game to pick up another much needed victory.
