Ramanathan vs Kukushkin by Bulan20

Kukushkin is playing Ramanathan in R.1 in Kuala Lumpur.

There is a big gap in quality between these two players. Ramanathan plays most of his season on

ITF, with some CH appearances. He did a good job in Turkey during last week beating Ymer and masur before losing to Lacko. Has a decent forehand and serve that. Not consistent enough to take that further step.

Kukushkin have done well on HC recently. Won on hometurf in Astana, met some tough opponents before Open and did good results in Open making it to R.3 pushing Cilic to 5 sets. Will travel from Russia after losing there in R.1 against Istomin.

Think Kukushkin will control this match from the baseline. His groundstrokes are better and R.R doesn´t have the serve to have "easy" holds in his own games. Both players come most recently from euroasia, but Kukushkin have had more time to adapt to the timezone. Think Kukushkin has the qualities to take this ATP as an outsider to Ferrer and Lopez. If he is motivated, I think the Kazak will keep this under 19 games.
