I have been expecting this game for quite some time, and for me, as a Benfica fan,is very hard to say this but...
Benfica doesn't have advantage in any aspect of the game.
Obviously, in my analisys, the most important aspect is the sportive side, but there are other aspect's that is quite pertinent to consider.
First of all, Atletico comes for this game after a win over Galatasaray in Turkey by 2-0, Griezman scored the 2 goals and Atletico just managed the game , without putting much intensity, just a normal game due to the quality of the team in general and also the big quality of Diego Simeone , amazing manager, one of the best for me.Won Spain's Primera against Barcelona and Real Madrid, without the same weapons of those two, reached the champions final that year, achievements that are only reachable to the top of the top.
Atletico lost this weekend against Villarreal in a typical pre champions game, that's is the reason that I don't bet on teams in this situation, the players loose focus, and think on the game of champions instead of the one they are playing at the moment.
Atletico is a very though team to beat at home, plays in high pressure 4-4-2 ( the same style as Benfica) with very dangerous and experienced strikers like Torres, Jackson or griezman. Atletico's high pressure suffocates the enemy , doesn't let them think, doesn't let them control the ball, doesn't let them make the normal construction of the game and the opportunities to score are very few...If any team wants to score against Atletico must do it in every chance otherwise is almost impossible to win.
Benfica comes from a win against Astana, a team that will give all the points to the others of the group because they dont have the quality or the experience at this level.
Benfica I strong at home.Period!! This season played 3 games away and lost all 3, have unexperienced right side with 2 quality youngsters but at this level experience is key, and lets face it, the quality gap is huge in every sector, even in therms' of managing...
Benfica has good players, even some with experience of playing against Atletico ( Jonas scored 2 times against them in Valencia) but is still trying to set a strong and effective 11...
It's going to be a one way game, Atletico have huge quality, Benfica will try to hold as much as they can but its going to be very very difficult.
So my choice goes for Atletico -1.5 Asian because I see a lot of problems for Benfica in this game.
