Valencia vs Granada by FP

The Valencia manager Nuno Santo is under huge pressure following their very poor start to the season, and must start winning now if he is to have any chance of surviving. His team have looked toothless in attack, which is very surprising given the talent in the squad – strikers Paco Alcacer and Alvaro Negredo both should be amongst the top scorers in La Liga.

The Valencia players will not get many easier opportunities to relieve the pressure with a win than in this match against Grenada. Here we will see if the problem is the manager – will the players fight for him? If they show the desire then they will win the match and get a bit of confidence to take forward into the rest of the season. If they fail to win then surely Santo will be out of a job.

Valencia have failed to score in their last two La Liga matches – 0-0 with Real Betis and Tuesday nights 1-0 defeat away to Espanyol. Grenada are arguably playing even worse having lost their last three consecutive games, last time going down 3-0 at home to David Moyes’ Real Sociedad.

Prior to losing against Espanyol, Valencia were priced at around 1.30 to take three points from this match. As a result of losing, the bookies are taking a flood of bets on Grenada and have pushed the odds on a Valencia win out to 1.53 at the time of writing (BetVictor, BetBright). The price on Valencia could be better than this come kick off as punters look to back against them.

I think that if there is any fight left in the Valencia players then they will win, especially with home advantage at the Mestalla Stadium. Odds of 1.53 reflect the chances of a superior team that desperately need the victory. For those seeking value, Valencia to be leading at half time and full time is priced at around 2.20, but I will be taking the 1.53 on the win over 90 minutes.

Valencia to win @ 1.53
