Tottenham vs Karabakh by FP

Mauritio Pochettino’s Spurs host the champions of Azerbaijan at White Hart Lane tonight in the first group stage match of Europa League Group J. Spurs qualified from their group in last years Europa League competition but were defeated in a last 32 knock out tie by Fiorentina. Karabak have made the group stage for the second season in a row but were poor in last years competition, only managing to score three goals in their six group games.

Tottenham come into this match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Sunderland last weekend, but will be missing the services of that matches winning goalscorer Ryan Mason through injury. Star midfielder Erikssen and also Dembele are still absentees. Harry Kane looks likely to start up front in a bid to kick start his season. He managed to score five goals in five Europe League games last season and needs a goal to get his confidence back after a quiet start to the season.

The record of each team in this competition recently points directly to a home win. Tottenham have a good record in group stages having only lost once in their previous 19 group games. As I mentioned Karabak struggle to score having managed three Europa League goals last year.

The price on a Tottenham win is poor, but I think they should cover a one goal handicap (win by two or more goals), so at reasonable odds of 2.00 that looks to be the way to go.
