Philadelphia is on the last spot in the NL East, with only two wins in the last ten games and with obvious problems in offense: the Phillies were limited to two or fewer runs in four of their last five games and have .219 BA, with 12 runs and 2 HR over that span.
Unlike Philadelphia, the Cubs are in obvious upswing lately, as Chicago won seven of its last ten games and is only 2 ½ games behind Pittsburgh in the race for the first wild-card spot in the National League.
Adam Morgan (5-5 with a 4.42 ERA), who will take the hill for the Phillies, is coming off his worst start of the season, as the right-hander yielded 8 hits and 6 runs, while walking two and striking out six over 6 1/3 innings of a 5-7 loss in Boston last Friday.
Morgan posted a 4.03 ERA in his previous seven starts at Citizens Bank Park.
The Chicago Cubs will send to the mound Jake Arrieta (18-6 with a 2.03 ERA), who was simply outstanding in his previous four starts, as the right-hander gave up just one unearned run over twenty nine innings in those four outings, including 4 hits over eight scoreless innings in the last of them against the Diamondbacks on Sept. 5, with eight strikeouts.
In the matter of fact, Arrieta posted a 5.09 ERA in three career starts versus Philadelphia, but mainly because of his first start against the Phillies, while he went 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA in the last two.
Darin Ruf is 1-for-2, with a solo home run and a walk off Arrieta, Ryan Howard is 1-for-5, but with a three-run home run and a walk, Domonic Brown is 2-for-6, with a double, while Carlos Ruiz is hitting. 286 (2-for-7), with a double, 1 RBI and a walk against him, but Odubel Herrera, Cesar Hernandez, Jeff Francoeur, Freddy Galvis are a combined 2-for-15.
Maikel Franco is 2-for-2, with two doubles and two walks off Arrieta, but he is injured.
I think that the Chicago Cubs are capable to win that game with more than two runs difference.
