Portsmouth vs Accrington by Hassy

Portsmouth have bought in a superb manager in Paul Cook. He had excellent success with Chesterfield for a few years and must be seen as a big coup for Pompey. There is no doubt that Porstmouth have a big budget this season as they seek a return to English football's third tier. Players like Roberts, Enda Stevens, Matt Tubbs, Adam McGurk and Burgess wont be bought in cheaply so Pompey have a squad with an abundence of quality. Their opening results suggests that they will score lots of goals. They are averaging 3 goals a game at home and they are still unbeaten this season. Last week they showed battling qualities to come back from 3-0 down and with ten men.

Paul Cook has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from, with Jack Whatmough (knee) the only player sidelined.

Accrington Stanley are an amazing club. They have the smallest budget of all the 92 football league clubs in the country but always manage a safe mid table position come May. They have made punching above their weight the norm and manager John Coleman plays an exciting and entertaining brand of football. Stanley have only lost one game so far this season but they have drawn 3 of their five games and struggle to score goals. Josh Windass is a key player for them and should probably be playing in a higher division but other than that Stanley are a real team and play with a good team ethic. After resting a host of players mindweek I expect Accrington will make plenty of changes from their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Bury, with the likes of Jason Mooney, Matt Crooks and Josh Windass all expected to return.

Accrington took four points off the Blues last term, with a 1-1 draw at the Crown Ground following their 3-2 triumph at Fratton Park. That was the only time they have ever beaten Pompey, who have won three of their previous seven meetings. However, this Pompey side finally look as though they have got themselves together and will prove a tough test for even the best sides in League 2 this season. I would go for the home win by two or more goals and then add to that Matt Tubbs to add goal number three to his total this season but I am going with the straight home win.
