Gulbis vs Thiem by Bulan20

Plenty of interesting odds in this tournament. R1 of Montreal ATP 1000 between E.Gulbis and D.Thiem.

Gulbis was a player with great potential to be a solid top 10-player (reached #10, 2014). Instead with bad temper, lack of effort he has dropped on the ranking and is now on #87. It is difficult to know where he stands since the guy has briliance in him. Sadly it was a long time since last time we saw it. Have qualified to this tournament by beating Mahut (#68) 2-1 and Rola 2-0 (#121). Before that he played on clay with no impressive results. Have a YTD record of 5 wins and 17 losses...

Thiem (#18) on the other hand is a young-gun (21 y) that have kept improving these last years. He is in great form and had a 10 game winning streak before losing in SF of ATP Kitzbuhel against Kolschrieber. He has a YTD record of 29/19 and he has proven himself earlier this year on HC, making it to the QF in ATP 1000 in Miami where he lost agaist Murray in 3 sets.

Gulbis can on occassion beat some of the best players and his strong serve will give him some easy points on this fast surface but with his form this year and a continous decline I don´t see him causing a upset here against a in form Thiem. A concern for Thiem is that he comes from going far in tournaments in recent clay and may be worn out, he has the adjustment from Europe to NA and that he hasn´t played on HC for a long period. With all this in mind I still like Thiem as winner in this matchup. -1,5 sets have nice odds for those who want a more riskier bet.

Thiem is my favourite, but he is tired.
Too much risk betting on this match between practice partners sharing the same coach.
