Rangers vs Peterhead by Joshboy
This match will be played in the Scottish insurance league cup. It will be played at Ranger's Ibrox stadium.
Rangers finished last season in 3rd position in the championship and almost made it back to the Scottish top flight but fell short in the play-offs. This season they will be desperate to make it back to the league which they have won so many times over the years. They will use this cup game as preparation for their league campaign which starts next week against St.Mirren. Since the playoffs Rangers have played just 2 games. Firstly they played Burnley in a friendly that they lost 1-0 and then last week they played Hibernian in the Challenge cup and got a great 6-2 away win. Rangers have almost a fully fit squad for this match with only goalkeeper Cammy Bell that is a doubt for this game.
Peterhead finished in mid-table last season in league 1. They have played 2 games since the end of the season. They beat Aberdeen in a friendly and they picked up a win in the challenge cup last weekend with a 3-0 win over Brechin. They have a couple of players missing. They will be missing defender Ally Gilchrist who is on loan from St.Johnstone. St.Johnstone will not allow them to play him as they do not want him cup tied when he returns to them. Also they have Nicky Riley out and Jamie Redman is a doubt. They do however have Andy Rodgers back.
I think that Rangers are going to want to get a good win here to build up confidence for the new season. They are coming off a great win against Hibs and will want to build on that. They are obviously the bigger club and have a lot more skill and experience in their ranks. Rangers are a division higher than their opponents and we should see a difference in class with Rangers taking a convincing victory.
