The Russians started their season two weeks ago. They already have wins under their belt against Rubin and Krylya. CSKA hasn’t been very active with transfers, so the core of the team remains together. Their last match was on Friday, so they should be ready for tonight. All the important players should be available. The russians haven’t played qualifiers for some years now. Looking back at recent seasons appearances in CL, we don’t really see comparable opponents to Sparta Prague from there. CSKA hosted Viktoria Plzen in 2013 and beat them 3-2 then. Since 2012 they failed to score in only one match at home: to Bayern Munich. They also conceded in each of those, but mostly against bigger names in Europe.
Sparta just played their first league match this season on Friday. They were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw against last seasons 10th place team Vysocina Jihlava. The big news is they are missing their best player David Lafata(20 goals in league, 8 in CL, 5 in EL last season). They haven’t been particularly good in away matches in Champions League. Last year 1-1 vs Levadia, 2-0 loss to Malmö. Also in Europa League 1-1 vs Zwolle, 3-1 loss to Napoli, 0-3 win over Slovan Bratislava, 2-0 loss to Young Boys.
This is a 2-leg affair. Considering the home advantage, no massive missings from CSKA and the missing of Lafata from Sparta, a CSKA win looks to be the reasonable result. Going for the -1AH.
