Tampa Bay vs Detroit by Sors

Tampa Bay’s offense continues to struggle, as the Rays were limited to three or fewer runs in five of their last six games and have .213 BA, with 14 runs and 5 HR over that span.

However, I think that the hosts may show better efficiency in offense in the opening game of this series against Detroit at Tropicana Field, given the fact that the Tigers will send to the mound Anibal Sanchez (10-7 with a 4.59 ERA), who is obviously far from his best shape in this moment.

The right-hander surrendered three or more earned runs in three of his previous four starts in July, although more important for my bet is, that he doesn’t have many good memories from his previous six starts versus Tampa Bay: Sanchez went 2-2 with a 5.08 ERA in six career starts against the Rays, allowing 6 hits and 7 runs, while walking four over 5 2/3 innings in the last of them on July 5, 2014 (2-7).

The Rays will give the ball to Nathan Karns (5-5 with a 3.47 ERA), who pitched well in his last start, as the right-hander gave up 3 hits and struck out four over five scoreless innings in a 1-0 win at Philadelphia on July 21.

Karns posted a 2.76 ERA in his last five starts at Tropicana Field.

The Tigers are still without Miguel Cabrera (.350 BA, 15 HR, 54 RBI), who was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

I think that Tampa Bay will win the opening game of this series.
