The Blue Jays were shut out for the third time this season in the second game of their three-game series against the Texas Rangers yesterday (0-4), but it doesn’t change the fact that Toronto is the team with the best offense in baseball in this moment (.267 BA, with 417 runs and 97 HR), as the hosts scored five or more runs in eleven of their previous fourteen games at Rogers Centre (11-3).

Texas has obvious problems in offense lately, as the guests were limited to three or fewer runs in seven of their last ten games and have .245 BA, with 21 runs and 8 HR from the last seven.

The Blue Jays will send to the mound Drew Hutchison (7-1 with a 5.33 ERA), who yielded 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out six over five innings in an 8-5 win at Tampa Bay last Monday.

Hutchison, who pitched well in most of his previous seven starts at “Rogers Centre” this season (5-1 with a 2.38 ERA), went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two career starts versus Texas, as the right-hander gave up just 3 hits over nine scoreless innings in the last of them on May 16, 2014 (2-0), with six strikeouts.

Prince Fielder is 0-for-3, with two strikeouts against him, Shin-Soo Choo is 0-for-4, with a strikeout, Adrian Beltre is 1-for-4, while Elvis Andrus is 1-for-7, with 1 RBI.

Chi Chi Gonzalez (2-2 with a 2.27 ERA), who will start for Texas, pitched well in his first four starts this season, but the rookie had obvious problems in his last start against the A’s, in which he gave up 6 runs on 8 hits over 5 2/3 innings of a 6-8 loss on June 23.

Conzalez has never faced the Blue Jays or any of their hitters before.

I think that the hosts are capable to cover this handicap.
