Cleveland Cavaliers @ Golden State Warriors
Review the Series:
After a 1'st game won in overtime by the Dubs, the Cavaliers did put up a huge defensive effort and surprisingly took the next two games, looking to have more claims over this finals than many expected. With another home win in the 4th game the they would have put the favourites in a very rough spot. But the unhuman defensive effort combined with the lack of depth this Cavs team has especially after Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving being sidelined by injuries came up and they had to pay in the 4th game. The 4th quarter confirmed what I had predicted here: the Cleveland team just melted, with hard legs and no clarity.
In my opinion David Blatt missmanaged his roster, using almost all the time the same 7 men. Or, let's put it another way: either he missmanaged, either he doesn't trust the others, it goes bad anyways for the Cavs.
In the meantime Steve Kerr kept on adjusting as the deepest roster in NBA allowed him and found the way.
Curry stepped up, Iguodala was a starter for the 1st time in the series and he excellently defended LeBron, David Lee kept on rising. Kerr played a small team and it payed dividends, as 4 players scored at least 14 points and 6 scored at least 9.
Simply this team is too deep and able to find solutions and the only way Cavs can try to control them is to slow down the game and to work tremendously in defense, as they did in the first three games.
I've said in the last prediction that I see much similarity between this series and the Warriors - Grizzlies one. And as in that one, the 4th game came out with a large win for the Dubs.
Same as then I see here the Cavaliers trying to slow down the hosts but not succeeding, as they should be energy sucked after the huge affort they put in these playoffs.
In this series the under cashed 3-1. And note that the only over came in overtime.
During the whole season, between these two teams the under has cashed 5-1 (same note as above).
5 of the last 6 Cleveland's road games went under.
8 of the last 9 Warriors' home games went under.
13 of the last 16 Warriors' overall games went under.
6 of the last 9 Cleveland's overall games went under.
Concerning the situation in the series, the lack of solutions the Cavaliers have and their desperate need for a slow pace, the stats of both teams and of these series and, finally, the importance of the game that usually drives it to a low scoring affair, I expect here a outcome around 95-85 for the Golden State Warriors.
