Montenegro vs Czech Republic by Majorleague
A match of Group A. Important game for both.
Both Czech Republic and Montenegro will have one eye on a top-five finish and will know that finishing second in this Group [assuming France live up to their top billing] could be important.
Montenegro is a dark horse coming to this competition. The growing murmurs are that this Montenegrin squad is a genuine contender for a spot in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and Angelica Robinson goes a significant way to allaying the concerns around the absent Eshaya Murphy. They have a great roster, they are strong in the paint with Robinson, Dubljevic but Perovanovic is another player who can put up big numbers. Crucially, if veteran point guard Jelena Skerovic can show the required longevity then Montenegro will feel they can make another run to the quarter-finals like they did on debut four years ago. Montenegro will be hoping that newcomers Jovana Pasic and Jelena Vucetic can secure the extra depth their limited rotation needs to endure the rigours of the competition.
Lubor Blazek and the Czech team must cope without the now retired Eva Viteckova and also Petra Kulichova who has skipped the summer. A large chunk of responsibility will be apportioned to the many EuroLeague Women champions on display from ZVVZ USK Prague including a familiar trio of Katerina Elhotova, Ilona Burgrova and Jana Vesela. Back-to-back close-fought losses to Belarus is not the best of omens heading into the tournament, however Lubor Blazek has been using a rotational policy so we have not yet necessarily seen the Czechs competing at full strength.
My pick is on Montenegro, both teams has potential, but they looks to be the stronger team.
