Basel vs Sion by MrDomez
> FC Basel
Swiss champions for the sixth time in a row and surviving the group phase of UCL were two of the three goals set before the season. The third was winning the cup and now Paulo Sousa and his team are only one victory away from achieving all their goals.
Basel had a rather easy way to the final, facing CS Italia, WIntherthur, Wohlen, Münsingen and FC St. Gallen. Sion is clearly the strongest opponent but Basel still are the better team and should win this final.
Players also said this is very important to them, having lost the last two finals in 2013 (against GC) and in 2014 (against FC Zurich) and no one wants to lose a third straight. I believe them and expect the team to come out motivated.
Basel will be missing their young striker Embolo due to a yellow card suspension and probably right winger Gonzalez who is away on national team duty with Paraguay preparing for the Copa America. I say probably because there are rumours he's traveling to Basel for the final but those reports haven't been confirmed nor denied. Basel definately could use him on Sunday.
Injuries: None worth mentioning.
Suspensions: B. Embolo
Absentees: D. Gonzalez
Having won against Chaux-de-Fonds, Biel, Köniz, Aarau and in impressive fasion away at FC Zurich, FC Sion has reached the Swiss cup final for the 13th time in club history. And believe it or not, they have won the cup in every one of their previous 12 appearances, even when they were a 2nd tier club in the 2006 final! This club and their fans care very much about this competition, they will come out on fire and give their very best.
Added motivation is the fact that they will qualify for the UEL group stages by winning the cup. They failed to do so via the league, after a horrible first half of the season they played much improved and finished as the 4th best team in 2015, but the UEL places were already out of their reach.
About 25'000 fans will make the trip to Basel and will make themselves heard, many players are in great form, especially midfielder Perrier and dangerous forward Konaté and Sion is definately capable to beat Basel if they get some breaks and bounces go their way.
Injuries: Pa Modou, D. Vidosic, D. Christophi
>>> Basel is the better team and the game will also be played in Basel (St. Jakob Park). That of course makes them clear favorites to win the swiss cup.
Results this season have been, Sion v Basel 2-3, Basel v Sion 1-1, Basel v Sion 1-1, Sion v Basel 0-1. O three out of four games have seen both teams scoring at least one goal and honestly the forth one Basel was very lucky to win 1-0. Sion had great chances and really should have scored.
I believe Sion will be able to challenge them and score at least one goal. I also believe the chances that both teams will score are better than 50% which gives the odds of 2.00 value.
Prediction: 2-1, 1-1
Pick: Both teams to score? YES, @2.00, bet365
PS: There's also value in betting Sion to win the cup, I give them about a 30% chance to do so and I saw odds as high as @4.50. Worth a shot in my opinion...
