Colombia vs Portugal by Raymond Fire
Generous price on Portugal in this game, they have proved themselves to be the stronger team.
Compared to the average, both these sides are strong teams and potential title contenders for the competition... but Portugal have been MUCH more impressive.. Colombia have actually been rather disappointing so far.
I spoke about Portugal U20's team before, they have a very strong squad and this generation of players is a very talented one for them.
Their team is very valuable, they have some VERY promising players who have already impressed both on a club and International level. In total their squad is worth over £8million.. This is substantially more than Colombia's roster, which totals just about £1million.
Colombia have a decent squad with a few notable players who have been doing well in the top Colombian domestic league.. but Portugal's players have far more experience. They have lots of players who have been key in Portuguese teams, where the competition and level of football is much higher than in Colombia.. They also have a few players who are at International club academies.. Their squad includes:
André Silva - overall top goal scorer in the Euro U19 and a key player for Porto II, scoring 7 goals for them this season... He has been outlined by FIFA as 'one to watch' in this U20WC.. So far he has 2 goals from Portugal's 2 games, living up to his expectations already.
Marco Lopez - Man City youth player who has been instrumental on loan at Lille this season, scoring several goals... This player alone is worth more than the entire of Colombia U20's squad.. A potential star in the making who proved himself with several goals in the U19 Euros last year.
Ganchinho Guedes - one of the top scorers at Benfica II this season, also making Benfica's 1st team on serval occasions recently.
Ivo Rodrigues - top scorer at Porto II (13 goals), now moved to a 1st division club in Portugal.
That's just a few of their attackers, they have plenty more high quality players too, also in defence... They are yet to concede a goal in this competition.. their defence and GK still have their 100% record, and will be looking to maintain it. Not only do Portugal have one of the best attacking line ups in world-wide for this generation but their organisation and defensive tactics have been brilliant.. They seem to have improved even more from their great defensive success last year in the Euros.. This probably is due to their very experienced manager (Sousa), who is another great addition to their team... He will be going for gold this year after taking Portugal all the way to the finals in the Euros last year, but losing to Germany... Despite playing VERY well.. They are more than capable of beating Colombia U20.. Apart from the fact they are the better team with the much more valuable squad.. They have also been in much better form.
Portugal enter this game top of the group with 2 wins from 2 games.. They have been underestimated by the bookies this year imo and therefore easily covered the handicaps both times.. They have a 3-0 win against Senegal U20 and a 4-0 win against Qatar U20.. They completely dominated both games and never looked in trouble. Easy wins.
However, Colombia played both the same teams, they got a 1-0 win (against Qatar) and a 1-1 draw (against Senegal).. And tbh both games they played very poorly in.. The 1-0 win could easily have been a 1-1 draw, it was a very balanced game even though Qatar are terrible and Colombia were 1.30 to win! Portugal then beat Qatar 4-0 with ease.... and the 1-1 draw for Colombia against Senegal also could have gone either way, Colombia only equalised via a penalty after going 1-0 down... and this was just after Portugal beat Senegal 3-0.
Colombia have looked very poor and been a massive disappointment so far.. Their defence has been poor and they managed just 1 goal in each of their games so far..
