Independiente vs Goias GO by Raymond Fire
Playing away today, but that's never a problem for Goias.
Quality, experience and form is all on their side today.
Furthermore, they are a very strong team on the road, it seems to suit their style of play. They prefer to sit back and attack on the counter, often allowing the opposition to have lots of possession - this tactical approach is ideal in Brazil when playing away from home.. and has worked well for them since the appointment of their new manager.
Goias have been in BRILLIANT form. Since the end of Serie A last year they have been unstoppable. Since entering 2015 they have played 20 games (all competitions) and have only lost once! They have 14 wins and 5 draws. They've been very strong, equally so away from home, as usual for them. They are currently flying high with this great form, especially after winning the Goiano cup last game out... yet another title for them to add under their belt. Now their morale is as sky high as their form has been. They start Serie A after today's game and so will want to keep their momentum going.. They always go for the win, even when playing away.
It could be a worry that they would be happy with a draw and just go for the win in the 2nd leg at home.. however, the motivation is certainly there for them today because if they win by 2+ then it will cancel the 2nd leg and they automatically qualify.. This is very desirable for them as they have a busy oncoming fixture list with Serie A restarting next week. They will want a 2+ goal win so they can focus on the league and not have to play this team again.. They will be having multiple fixtures per week soon, so it would be more than ideal for them to win today by multiple goals.
Their manager has already released their team sheet for today. They have a fully strength team selected and only one important player missing (striker Erik, due to injury).. Apart from his forced absence they have a full strength side selected with all their other top scorers/assisters and key players.
The home side are MUCH weaker.
Goias are a top division side and one of the strongest in Brazil, real title contenders. The home side however don't play in a proper league and just take part in much smaller competitions.. Their squad is FAR weaker and every single player is matched with a better one by Gioas. They also have been hit with a last minute injury, meaning a regular and usual starting defender won't be able to play.
They have no real experience or quality within their side.... Gioas on the other hand have several very strong players who are highly experienced both playing for and against the top sides in Brazil - some of the best players in the country.
Whilst Gioas come from just winning the final of the Goiano competition.. The home side come from a loss.. where they blew their opportunity at a title (in a much lower quality competition).. They have been in decent form in recent months but have been playing MUCH weaker teams in much weaker tournaments... So they can't really be compared.
Gioas are the much better team and currently in the peak of their form.. They should win this 1st leg with minimal problems. Their last 6 away games have resulted in 5 wins and just 1 draw (zero losses).
Gioas won their 1st leg (away fixture) in their most recent cup tie and should do again today. The home side aren't used to hosting such high quality and large clubs.. Due to the huge gulf in quality, these two sides have never clashed before.
