Chesterfield who were only promoted from League 2 last season are the surprise package of the season. Normally when Chesterfield are promoted they go straight back down again the following season. However, they do have a half decent team this time around but a play-off place was only ever a dream at the start of the season.
They had the 5th best home record this season in League One but were susceptible to poor results with home 3-2 defeats to Leyton Orient and Coventry. Only a few months ago the Spireites were also defeated 2-0 at home by Preston.
Defender Drew Talbot (8/0) is the only player missing for Chesterfield.
The away side enjoyed an 18 game unbeaten run before their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Colchester on the final day of the season, ending their hopes of automatic promotion. Colchester were fighting for their lives as a win was the only way to secure League One survival.
Preston really should be determined to put right this disappointing defeat to the U's and the only way they can do that is to secure promotion through the play-offs. Although the 2 sides are only 3 places apart, there was a massive 20 point gap between the 2 teams in the final league standings.
Preston will have the luxury of a full squad so League One top scorer Joe Garner (37/25) will partner Jermaine Beckford (23/12) up front.
As above, Chesterfield are the surprise package in League One this season and do not possess the quality to play in the Championship next season, whereas Preston do, so a Preston loss would be a shock result.
