Cork City FC vs Sligo Rovers by TFB
Cork are already approaching a must win situation if they are to realise their ultimate goal of being crowned Premier Division champions. The ever impressive Dundalk, last season's champions, are already 6 points clear at the top after an 8-1 win against the hapless Bray Wanderers. Cork, 7 points adrift in 3rd place will be hoping to cut the gap to 4 points before Dundalk next take to the field on Saturday.
The Turner's Cross is known as a fortress as Cork are probably the best supported team in the Irish league. This is largely backed up by their excellent home record which sees only 2 home defeats in their last 30 matches, both defeats coming against Dundalk!
Cork will likely be without midfielder Billy Dennehy who is a big player for the home side. Dennehy left the field with concussion in their 1-1 draws against Bohemians.
The away side have had a poor start to the season and currently lie in 9th position. They have only enjoyed 3 away wins in the last 12 months with all 3 being against the lower sides in Ireland, Drogheda, Bray and Galway.
Sligo, winless in 4, suffered a disappointing 1-1 draw against bottom club Limerick. This result came after a 3-0 away defeat to St Patrick's, a side who are on a similar level to Cork.
A point of any kind would be a great result for Sligo against one of the league's strongest home sides.
