Kokkinakis vs Lajovic Dusan by Experttennis
This one should be quite interesting match , two very talented young players with different styles and physique and the attitude towards the game overall .
Dusan Lajovic is the number 79 on the tour and his highest ranking is 57 , he plays his best tennis on clay and has an overall record on it of 230 wins and only 130 losses . Played well this season at least at the start of it both in Quito and Sao Paulo losing both times in the quarterfinals stage . In Sao Paulo he beat Andujar and Verdasco who is probably his biggest scalp of the season . He is a very interesting player ,solid server with one handed backhand and very good forehand , uses a lot of spins and likes to give rotation to the ball .He has excellent footwork and is agile both when on defense and when he needs to attack , has a great nose for the game and I think that he should be the favourite here .
Thanasi Kokkinakis is another one of those Aussie rocket launchers , rising star with great serve and a very powerfull groundstrokes .His biggest asset is his forehand cause he can get a winner of almost every spot on the court and he really uses it well and likes to attack whenever he gets the chance and more often than not he gets winners out of it . His game certainly isnt at its best on clay and specially on this clay which is really slow and suits real claycourters more than it does well Kokkinakis . He only played 44 matches so far on clay and most of those were on futures level and some in Roland Garros last year , his overall record on clay is 27/17 and you can see that isnt as convincing as Dusan's score is .
They met so far 2 times and both times Lajovic won the match in straight sets , once last year in Indian Wells with a double 6:3 and this season in Acapulco with 6-4 7-6 .Everything taken in consideration I wouldnt give more than 1.50 on Dusan and even those kind of odds would be just because his game has been struggling of late but he will get out of this crysis at some point . I think that he is a better player on this kind of surface and has more patience in his game and is more dependable player ,I think that Kokki will try to boss Lajovic around at the start of the match and he might get on to a hot start but later on when you need to play point by point that is the time when Lajovic is at his finest . He is in better shape and considering that this is Thanasi's first claycourt tournament of the season and that he has already played three matches on it I am not giving him too much of a shot and the only way he can win this one is in two sets which is almost an impossible bet to me .
I am taking the Serb here for obvious reason , enjoys to play on this surface , leads by 2:0 in their h2h meetings and his game is more suited for this kind of surface than is the case for the Aussie .
