Cork City FC vs Longford by 20legend

Cork City will try to continue the hunt for 1st placed Dundalk when welcoming Longford Town tonight at Turner’s Cross.

Cork City won their match against Drogheda (1-2) away from home on Friday, which brought them back into the 2nd place on the table. That result made it just two points up to Dundalk who the welcomes on Friday. They have been very solid so far as they are unbeaten this season with 5-3-0 and a strong 14:2 on goal difference. They have been unbeatable at home so far with 3-0-0 and 10:0 on goal difference.

Striker Karl Sheppard (7/3) is out with injury, while defender John Dunleavy (8/0) and striker John O’Flynn (4/1) are highly doubtful.

Longford Town is newcomers to the highest league this season and they have impressed already. With 2-3-3 they are currently in a mid-table 6th place with nine points and 9:11 on goal difference. That is a position where they clearly are able to keep through this season, as it is a six-point gap up to the top 5 teams. They are coming from a highly acceptable draw against Sligo Rovers (1-1), and have shown that they are difficult to play against in recent weeks. They have managed 2-2-1 from their last five games, including a draw against St. Patricks (2-2). I have not found any information regarding the visitor’s injuries.

I do not expect any easy win for Cork City in this game, but I expect them to break the newcomers down and take the win. A win here must be expected from Cork City they should be contenders for the league title this season. On the other hand; Dundalk welcomes 11th placed Galway at home. With three points expected for Dundalk, only three points are expected from Cork City tonight. However, given Longford’s recent performances, I pick Cork City to score at least two goals tonight.
