Boston vs W. Nationals by Sors

The Red Sox are about to make their best start in the last nine years, as the last time when Boston won six of the first eight games was in 2006.

The hosts can rely on a powerful offense this season and although Mike Napoli (2-for-24) and Shane Victorino (2-for-20) have some problems lately, the rest of the team is doing pretty well.

The Red Sox have 0.253 BA from the previous seven games this season, with 43 runs and 9 HR in this period and went 13-for-34, with 9 runs and 2 HR in the first game of this series yesterday.

Unlike Boston, Washington is a team with big problems in offense since the beginning of the new season: .185 BA and only 17 runs in the previous seven games, as the Nationals went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the opening game of this series.

Anthony Rendon (.287 BA, 83 RBI, 21 HR in 2014) and Denard Span (.302 BA, 37 RBI, 5 HR in 2014) are on the 15-day disabled list, while Jayson Werth went 0-for-3 in his return to the starting lineup yesterday.

Justin Masterson, who will start for the Red Sox, pitched well in his first start this season, as the right-hander yielded 3 hits and 2 runs over six innings against the Phillies last Thursday, while striking out seven.Masterson gave up only 2 hits and 1 run over seven innings in his last start versus Washington on June 14, 2013 (2-1), with ten strikeouts.

Yunel Escobar is 3-for-14, with 1 BRI and a walk against Masterson, but Ian Desmond, Dan Uggla and Jayson Werth are a combined 0-for-11.

The Nationals gives the ball to Stephen Strasburg, who surrendered 9 hits and 6 runs (three earned) over 5 1/3 innings in his first start of the season against the Mets last Thursday.

In the point of fact, Strasburg yielded 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 13 over six innings in his last start at Fenway Park on June 8, 2012 (7-4), but now he will face a much different team.Hanley Ramirez is 5-for-16, with a homer, 2 RBI and three walks against Strasburg, Pablo Sandoval is 3-for-12 with a walk, while Dustin Pedroia is 1-for-3.

I think that the Red Sox will win the second game of this series.
