Saint Mirren vs Ross County by 20legend

Not much has gone St. Mirren’s way this season as they are clearly rock bottom with only 21 points from 32 games. They have 22:56 on goal difference, which obviously points on both offensive and defensive problems combined. They lost their recent match against the team above them, Motherwell (5-0), in a game were they had no chance. It was a big blow for St. Mirren, as Motherwell is the team above them at the table with 31 points. This will make it even harder to cut the gap before it is too late. Defender Marc McAusland (28/0) is expected back to this game, while Isaac Osbourne (14/0) will be missing.

Ross County has been in St.Mirren’s desperate need of points just a couple of months ago, when they had four points down to rock bottom. However; with 7-1-0 from their last eight games has brought them up in 10th place with 13 points down to today’s opponent. The coach Jim McIntyre has really brought some confidence into the group of players, but it will now be vital not to get overconfident in the split. Defender Darren Barr (6/0) is missing, while midfielder Rocco Quinn (9/0) and forward Craig Curran (13/5) are doubtful.

This is the last game for both teams before the league get split in a “top six” and “bottom six” group. The last five games of the season, the respective teams from “top six” and “bottom six” can only face other teams from the same group. The team to finish in 12th place after the last five games in “bottom six” will be relegated. Both St. Mirren and Ross County will be in the “bottom six” after this game, but the three points will be very important for St. Mirren, who can cut the gap down to seven points on the teams above; Motherwell. Even if Ross County is in a good flow these days, it is still 18 points to play for this season, meaning that there is no need for them to get too confident just yet.

It is easy to say that Ross County is the favorites here because of recent form, but it is always dangerous to meet teams that are in St. Mirren’s position. St. Mirren will fight for their existence in every possible way throughout the game, and it may pay off when you at least expect it to happen. I expect it to be a close game which means that the chances of a draw could be a scenario. However, I also see Ross County to get the first goal, with St. Mirren hunting for the equalizer. The visitors have got 2-3-1 from their last five away games, but they have won either half in four out of five in these games. I think that it will be a fitting scenario to this game as well.
