Kerber vs Arrubarrena-Vecino by Tennisguy

This is a round of 16 match from the Charleston WTA tournament between Angelique Kerber from Germany and Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino from Spain.

They have met only once in a match that took place in 2012 at the Beijing tournament(hard) which was won by Kerber 6-2, 6-0.

Arruabarrena-Vecino produced a very big surprise in the first round by defeating Stosur in the second round 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. She served very well in this encounter and she actually looked completely in controll of the match with the exception of one slip in the middle of the second set which actually ended up costing her the set. She also played in the first round against Buyukakcay who she easily defeated 6-2, 6-2. I think she looks very good physically because her movement against Stosur was incredible and she rarely made any unforced errors.

Kerber played in the first round against Rodina and won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was kind of a strange match in my opinion but it did show me that Kerber is not prepared for this clay court season at all. She was behind in the third set against Rodina 4-2 and did manage to recover and win 4 games in a row but the overall performance was lacking determination from her as she looked so bored the entire match. Overall she is the better player of the two without a doubt but from what she showed in the first match I don't see her doing very well against Arruabarrena-Vecino.

I think there is very good chance of another upset happening in this tournament so Arruabarrena-Vecino is my pick
