Peer vs Kanepi by Tennisguy

This is a first round match from the Katowice WTA tournament between Shahar Peer from Israel and Kaia Kanepi from Estonia.

They have met 7 times so far and Kanepi leads at 4-3.

The reason I think Peer has a fair chance in this encounter is because she usually plays well here considering she managed a quarterfinal in 2013 and 2014. She played the qualif. stages and defeated Elitsa Kostova 6-4, 6-4 and Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 7-6(5). I think she also has a plus from these matches because she got adjusted to the surface and she will be better prepared for this match today.

Kanepi very rarely plays in indoor lately and considering she only played only 5 matches in indoors in the last 3 years and only won 2 out of those 5 I think it's safe to say she is not comfortable in indoors. Overall Kanepi is the better player and I guess it's understandable that she is the favorite but given her lack of matches in indoors and the fact that she has a close record against Peer this could end up with a surprise result.

I think both players will focus more on their service games rather than forcing any early breaks so it's probably going to be a close one. Kanepi does have the better service of the two for sure but recently she struggle a lot with double faults and also with consistency in her shots because she makes a lot of unforced errors in her matches.

I think there is enough here to go with the underdog and hopefully Peer will make another good tournament here at Katowice and defeat
