CSKA Moscow vs SKA Petersburg by Sors
First game from the final series in the Western Conference between the teams of CSKA Moscow and SKA Saint Petersburg.
These two teams met in the first playoff round last season and SKA Saint Petersburg won the series without big problems (4-0).
On the other hand, CSKA Moscow is quite different team compared to the last season, as the hosts have young and ambitious head coach (Dmitri Kvartalnov), as well as more qualitative group of players.
CSKA Moscow is a well balanced team, but the main strength of this team is definitely in defense: only 98 goals in sixty games during the regular season (1.63 per game), eleven goals in nine games in the playoffs (1.22 per game) and less than two goals in eight of the previous fifteen games at home in 2015.
At the same time, the attack is among the best in the league this season, with 237 goals until this moment (3.43 per game) and at least three goals in eight of the last ten games at CSKA Ice Palace.
The main advantage for SKA Saint Petersburg is that the guests can count on more experienced head coach in the face of Vyacheslav Bykov, but unlike the previous season, this team lost its advantage in terms of quality.
The guests have scored almost the same amount of goals compared with their opponents (241), but SKA Saint Petersburg significantly inferior to CSKA Moscow regarding the defense (2.19 per game) and I think that this could be the key factor for winning the series.
Sergei Andronov (r. wing / 45 – 6+6) is out for CSKA Moscow, while the guests have no problems with injured players in this moment.
