Vera Zvonareva is a great figure in women tennis, a former world no2, two times Grand Slam finalist in Wimbledon and US Open and doubles Grand Slam Champion in Melbourne and finalist in Wimbledon.
Unfortunately she was sidelined for two years by injuries.
Now, at the age of 30, she strives for a comeback and finally she looks to be getting some momentum, after reaching quarterfinals in Shenzen (lost to in form Bacsinszky), playing 2nd round in Ausralian Open and hanging tough in the first set lost 5-7 to Serena Williams and now reaching the quarterfinals in Pattaya after two straight sets wins.
Here she's going to face Marina Erakovic from New Zealand, born croatian.
The kiwi player had a mediocre stretch in this start of a year, wining at home to Puig for losing after that to Zahlahova, wining in Sydney over junior Tjandramulia just to lose clearly to Babos after that and losing in Australian Open in the first round to the spanish rising star Muguruza. Here she won in straight sets over average players Kumkhum and Beygelzymer.
Bottomline,: Zvonareva clearly has the quality on her side and the far superior tennis IQ. All she needed was a little bit of rhytm and I see her being now enough warmed up for being able to prevail over a good but not brilliant opponent in Marina Erakovic.
