Chelsea vs Manchester C. by Jamesington
The favourites are worth supporting at above evens and a price of 2.15 with William Hill is more than fair for a side which is stronger in defence and in midfield than the opposition they will face at Stamford Bridge in this game.
Chelsea have had some relatively disappointing performances lately - so have Man City, the difference however lies in the results. Despite Chelsea not performing particularly well in either cup tie against Liverpool, the Blues still find themselves in the Capital One Cup final. Okay, Chelsea did lose against Bradford but that will serve as a wake up call to the squad (it must be remembered that most of the first choice starting eleven were absent from the line-up in that game). Manchester City were defeated by both Middlesbrough and Arsenal - by more than one goal - and have not impressed in 2015.
Whilst all the talk pre-match is likely to be of Frank Lampard's return to Stamford Bridge, the real important player news lies FOR Chelsea, with the likely absence of both Fabregas and Costa. Costa has appealed against his charge but it is unlikely to be completely overturned and so the Spanish international will probably miss the game. With Drogba and Loic Remy waiting to step in though, there shouldn't be any problem in finding a suitably burly replacement - whilst Remy has the pace to trouble City's defenders too.
Chelsea won the corresponding fixture last season and have won their last ten home league matches. City have won only 1 away game v top 12 opposition in the league this season and draws against Arsenal, Everton and Southampton (along with a loss at West Ham) suggests this is a team which can be gotten at away from home. Home win.
