Worcester City vs Scunthorpe by Jamesington

There is no reason for the massive difference in the odds for each of these sides to qualify other than their differing divisions and even that should not be such a massive factor in this FA Cup second round replay - Worcester, the underdogs, have every chance of qualifying.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw on the 7th December in a game which either side could have won, there were chances for both teams to win the game but neither could take them - indeed the second half of the match was dominated by Worcester before a scrappy last ten minutes in which either side could have bagged a winner. The point is that on paper, perhaps the team with the bigger stadium, higher league standing and bigger history is the one which we might expect to win but on the pitch it is by no means such a cut and dry story.

Worcester have been fortunate in their preparation for this big match as there scheduled game in between was postponed, giving them a full ten days to prepare and concentrate on the FA Cup. There is a full squad for Worcester to choose from and top scorer Daniel Nti, who netted the equaliser against Scunthorpe, has recovered from a virus and will play.

It is hard to explain the feeling of magic and expectation that surrounds the early stages of the FA Cup, it can not be quantified or expressed in any real terms but it is most definitely there. The City of Worcester will be abuzz at the moment, not just for Christmas but for the biggest game their football team has played in a long time - with a very real chance of winning it. The game is being played at Aggborough, Worcester's home ground and they have sold out the stadium, so will be roared on by thousands of fans and locals who have come out just for this game.

Both sides have been in good form in the league lately, Worcester have not lost in 14 matches (cup and league) whilst Scunthorpe have climbed out of the relegation zone with some good results. For Scunthorpe the greater emphasis is surely to be placed on survival in the league and thus the focus in this match, if with anyone, will be the Worcester lads who will be looking to qualify for the 3rd round of the FA Cup, live on TV. They can do it and can be backed at 3.0 with most bookmakers, including Bet365.
