Karabakh vs Inter Milan by Jamesington
A match which to Inter Milan is utterly meaningless is what we have on our hands and thus it makes sense to take a good hard look at the opposition and see if they are worth a bet. Firstly, addressing the Internazionale squad for the match:
- 3 Goalkeepers with 0 Serie A appearances between them this season.
- A relatively decent back-up defence, but only Vidic has been a regular this year
- 4 midfielders selected in the squad, only 2 have played more than a handful of games for the club
- 3 strikers: Dani Osvaldo is a match for most teams, but the other two haven't played a first team game
This is a weak squad who have been sent out presumably to attempt to get a result, but in reality are a total mish-mash of squad players and guys who have little to no experience. Only Vidic, Obi and Osvaldo have played regularly this year.
The home side, are in a position where they can still qualify for the next round. However, they know that only a win would guarantee said qualification. If St. Etienne do not win their match then a draw would be good enough but it cannot be assumed they will fail to win and thus the Azerbaijani side must try to win the game. I think they have enough quality to do so... just.
It should be noted that Qarabag have some key players missing too, 3 of their Brazilians are expected to be out and that includes top scorer Reynaldo. Nevertheless the home team are in excellent domestic form and have held up admirably enough in their other matches to suggest that they can push on against a weakened Inter team today. By no means a guarantee, but an interesting price for a team who are effectively playing Internazionale 'B'.
14 goals in their last 6 matches, with no defeats - that's also not exactly bad form, regardless of the opposition. HOME WIN!
