Arsenal vs Southampton by Jamesington

Arsenal have a very long injury list and are facing 3 matches in the next 6 days, not a combination which would traditionally mix well - with the small squad perhaps falling susceptible to tired legs. This should not be taken incorrectly, I think Arsenal will still do well in this period, but we may be in store for some entertaining matches (particularly when the Gunners play Southampton and Newcastle, two sides who are currently exceeding expectations).

The Gunners are without their first and second choice goalkeepers, both first-choice full backs (Gibbs and Debuchy) will miss the game as will Gibbs' likely replacement - Nacho Monreal, plus a host of midfielders such as Jack Wilshere and Mikael Arteta will not be available for selection against Southampton who will be looking to bounce back from their biggest defeat of the season. The visitors have injury problems of their own, with Morgan Schneiderlin hurt against Man City and James Ward-Prowse/Jay Rodriguez still missing but this is by no means as significant a missing list as Arsenal's which amounts to at least 9 players who could consider themselves first team regulars.

But this bet is about Southampton, not Arsenal, and we must look at the attacking strength which the Saints posess - their ability to score goals from all over the pitch (Clyne 2, Wanyama 3, Pelle 6) is a massive asset. Southampton had scored at least 2 goals in 5 of 8 games before coming unstuck against Man City and so odds of 3.85 with Unibet are more than good value.

It will be interesting to see how the Saints get on against Arsenal and Manchester United (their next opponents) as the defeat to Man City could either be a rallying point or the match where everything fell apart. I think it will prove to be the former and Southampton will carry on to impress for the rest of the season under Ronald Koeman, who has only lost 1 game to Arsene Wenger in 7 match-ups.

Southampton beat Arsenal 1-2 at the Emirates a few weeks ago in the League Cup and it would be no surprise to see them do well again. I fancy perhaps a 2-2 draw, but the bet is SOUTHAMPTON OVER 1.5 GOALS.

Koeman wise man and a wise person knows: "What bird in the hand is better than two in the bush ....."
Given that the Saints have one of the best defenses in the league, they will try not to miss an early goal, and use error in the Arsenal defense. Wenger, under pressure, as well understands that a draw is better than losing, and uchityvvaya up problems, pay attention to more defensive actions than open football. Wenger knows that a class above his players, and the presence of super masters who can single-handedly solve ihod match, Arsenal will allow to count on success. my choice for this m

That is the strangest comment I have ever had on one of my picks.

But.... cool. Your bet is no goals in the first 15 minutes? So odds of like 1.1?

Well documented bet James. I will probably bet on the slightly safer combo "g/g and over 2,5 goals" with not bad odds (@2,25).
Good luck.

I fancy an Arsenal win tonight, however, approaching this month different, going for quality rather than quantity ;)

I think this bet is a good value bet but, like I said, I am not discounting Arsenal. I think it should be an open and exciting match.

Haha, what are you suggesting Shibby?

Yeah, Nick - I think that's a nice bet. Good luck.

Southampton is losing grip and I expect more losses because of tough schedule in December and January. Arsenal straight win or -1 AH

@wass - Arsenal have scored 3+ goals on 5 occasions this season, so both an Arsenal win and Southampton to score twice could happen. Not suggesting it will, but it could.

Saints had a fairly comfortable run from the start of the season, now is their real test and it started poorly against City. Can't see them being too adventurous tactically, think they will try and shut the game out for as long as possible.

Odds are 1.34, which total over the first 15 minutes is less than 0.5!

piss poor performance by Arsenal, so many loose passes and barely a chance created, only Giroud made an impact on the game but only with a man more have scored
