Wawrinka vs Cilic by Jamesington
Whilst his form coming into the tournament was fairly poor, Stan Wawrinka was impressive in his first match against Berdych and won the match 6-1, 6-1. Cilic's first match ended with the same result (6-1,6-1) however the Croat was on the wrong end of a Djokovic masterclass. Whilst world number 1 Djokovic was impressive in victory, Cilic did not put up much of a fight - nor did he in his next match, played against Tomas Berdych, where he won only 4 games in 2 sets.
Cilic's usual weapon is his first serve but in London (on the indoor hard surface) he has not been in control of his artillery winning only 61% of points against Berdych (on his 1st serve) and a measly 52% when playing Djokovic.
Whilst Wawrinka was soundly beaten by Djokovic too (the Swiss won only 1 of the final 13 games) he was firmly in control of his game against Berdych, winning 95% of points on his first serve. Wawrinka also won both times these two played each other this year - winning in straight sets in Monaco.
Cilic has little to play for as his qualification chances are all but gone and Wawrinka knows that should he win then he will qualify alongside Djokovic. This would appear to be a pretty routine victory for the Swiss, back him to get the job done in straight sets - WAWRINKA TO WIN 2-0.
