I can’t be bothered

November 20, 2008 by Rdeacon

There are times lately when I simply can’t be bothered to bet. I am confident I know the outcome of a certain event, and have the cash to punt on it, but then I get that little gremlin on my shoulder that says ” don’t forget the discipline, don’t forget the discipline”, and of course the discipline is to check the bet out more thoroughly, trawl through the vast array of websites, forums, closed forums and chat rooms. Try to sniff out any info you can find, try and sort the wheat form the chaff. All to try and nick a few quid. Well I can’t be arsed half the time, and I don’t know whether it’s something to do with the seasonal changes in the weather, but it always happens to me around this time of year.

I still of course have a bet when I can’t be bothered (beacuse I am an addict of course !!), but generally it is of poor quality, and I kick myself when it goes down. I give you last night as a prime example. I fancied England, Argentina, Greece on the handicap, and Jamaica to beat Canada. I thought that should be good enough in a little accer , but then wanted to win a stack of cash for a small stake and wondered what else I could chuck in with them ( as if the odds of around 15/1 weren’t enough ), so i thought i read somewhere that Eire should beat a depleted polish side, and the Honduras/Mexico game was a banker draw ( odds on with most bookies ), and that Azerbaijan to beat Albania was fixed to do so. I was tired, had a bad day at work and couldn’t be bothered to research the bets properly, so stuck them on regardless.

I obviously don’t need to tell you what happened. The 15/1 part came in, and my 3 “others” stuffed me royally. Now I obviously didn’t put too much cash on these bets, but it does make you think what is a good bet, and what is value, and why the bloody hell is it never enough !!

For my private guys I give them the wealth of my experience to tip up a few games each week in the English football leagues. These are obviously all around the even money mark, and I do ok with them. However I always stick them in an accer together as I want to win mega bucks, and if I deem the prize not sufficient, I will go searching for a “banker” to boost the size of the return up. I will never forget the day when a return of £1500 was not going to be enough, so I looked for 2 “bankers” to boost the win pot. My chosen selection were the good old Scottish duo of Celtic and Rangers, both at home, and both 1/5 against cannon fodder, and the ability to boost the bet up to over 2 grand.

As sure as eggs is eggs, the £1500 part came in ( i forget the stake and teams ), and sure enough Celtic won 5-0, but Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw against some Scottish pub team, and I had done my dough. Now, did i really need that extra £500 win on the bet????? Did I bollocks, I would have been happy with the £1500, but our good old friend Mr greedy doesn’t let you be sensible sometimes !!

I guess now the wind has blown over I will be ok commenting on the “Foxxy situation”. Personally I thought his tips were pretty good, he made a healthy profit, he didn’t always look for the favorites ( i remember last year when he tipped Man City to beat united and they did and he got pelters for his troubles ). However he fancied himself as a bit of a player, and some guys didn’t like that. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I guess Foxxy thought a little too highly of himself, and then got under the skin of 2 guys on here where you really don’t want to be doing that. If Betshoot was purely a tipping portal, then he would still be on here, and doing well. As it is, there is room for comment and opinion. Myself, Burt, Jumbo, and the messiah have our own corners where we can carte blanche pretty much talk about whatever we want to. Indeed Jumbos rants and raves are far more entertaining than any drivel that I care to write down, and the guy has obviously lead an amazing life. Point is though, as i believe Lord Posho said, this place isn’t just a tipping site, it is more of a community where people have to prove themselves to get on here, where they constantly apologize for their poor English. Like Canary said in one reply to a guy, I took A-level french at college and couldn’t write a sentence of french now,let alone a detailed and reasoned tip, so to the non English guys on here, keep trying, and well done for embracing the site.

I am also getting a little excited that Canary is back in the game again. It’s is so refreshing to read his thoughts again, and I am hoping that the Pats pick will be the first of many new posts that he puts up here in the coming weeks, or is it the fact that he has found a few hours spare to warrant the time to do his research and post something tangible up here. I hope it’s the first of many again, or he may be like me, and think ”i’d forgotten how time consuming this was, and now come to think of it, I can’t be bothered !”

I’m sorry.. i did not see your post on Swansea-Birmingham until I posted mine.
I agree with your views on accumulator bets. It is so true that these ’sure bet’ teams always pop-up to ruin our big wins. But will i avoid them on my next acca.. well the answer is no.. I never seem to learn.. Good luck with your picks mate

Yep, think we’ve all ruined a perfectly good acca at one time by trying to boost the profit up to a nice round figure, just remember people £100 or £500 are both ‘Artificial Limits’.
Nothing worse than getting one result in an acca wrong – but if it dont come up it actually feels better to get all the selections wrong doesnt it?
As Alec (the loudmouth wag in my local bookies) used to say about his daily placepot selections: “Ya bastart! I was wan aff it – am away hame to batter the wife!”
    (He never did tho.)
