New Member and Aussie Rules Football

Postby Chico on Thu Mar 20, 2008 1:48 pm

Introducing myself to the betshoot community.

I'm a young man from Australia, very passionate about almost all forms of sport, in part. my native Aussie rules Football, tennis, b-ball, cricket and anything else i get a chance to watch. For a while now I have been getting a betting education every morning while i eat my toast thanks to guys like Divol, Jumbo, Octavian and others, you guys write fantastic previews and we're all grateful for your insights, much of my NBA and soccer knowledge can be attributed to you guys and all the great tipsters on betshoot.

Of course coming from Australia, I grew up with Australian Rules Football. For the last few years i have been betting on the AFL and to my great enjoyment find that my years of watching and being involved in the sport have helped me to turn a profit. Being in this rather large but hardly populated country down under i feel along way from any sports action in the U.S or Europe and I wonder whether anyone else either wagers on or is even just interested in Aussie Football.

I feel that after many months of betshoot help, i may be able to give something back for anyone interested in the AFL. Everyone is welcome to privately message me, about the AFL or just anything sport related :D

Hope I may be of some help to someone!

Good luck this Easter weekend! :D

I play dreamteam on the afl site. Finished 2494th overall last year in my first attempt, just missed on on being in the top 1% by a few points (top 2371).

Captained Chad Cornes so a happy bunny at the moment. :D

Chico,
Please start tipping on AFL,you might not realise this but it gets no coverage over here in NZ but I watch it every chance I get and actually quite like the game.
I watched Richmond beat Carlton last night which was a fantastic game.
Thanks for your kind words also and although the NBA has been a disater zone if i'm on anything in it.lol
We have had guys here who have tried on the AFL and they have had very good views but they have gone away after one of two losses, the real fact is Bro,that if we all gave up following one or two bad results there would be no one at all on here,we all have bad times and good times so please start tipping and just remain a part of the team.
I wish you the best of luck and hope to see your name quickly climbing the ranks on Betshoot.
Good Luck yourself this Easter Weekend.

Thanks Jumbo, your League tips are very insightful and hopefully i can help a few people with my previews regarding the AFL.

This is a little idea of how I look at matches, the thought process that goes into making the decisions I make. As with any sport the match-ups, injuries, game styles and of course motivation all play a major role in making a tip.

The first week of most sports seasons usually throw up a few interesting results as teams who finished near the bottom the previous year are fresh and rejuvenated usually with a few new players and sometimes a new coach and for these teams motivation is super high. They have points to prove. That was shown last night with Richmond’s good performance after most people wrote them off in their pre-season previews.

More than just motivation (Carlton finished one place above Rich, second last in 2007), those teams with that extra fitness level have a major advantage in the first week. That was the case last night with Rich. Players widely reported to have been super fit and only one major player, Mark Coughlan missing out due to his continued recovery from a knee reconstruction. Carlton on the other hand lacked 3 or 4 of their best 22, while new recruit and Captain Chris Judd along with top midfielder Nick Stevens played less than 2/3rds of the match as they come back from major injuries.

Despite Carlton being the favourite for this match, my bet last night was for the Richmond Tigers to win by under 39.5 points. As well as the above reasons, I looked strongly into the match-ups all over the ground, part. The forward line of Rich against Carlton’s defenders. Richmond had the stronger forward line with more options (Richardson, Pettifer, Brown, Deledio and at times Polak.) Carlton named a young inexperienced defence (Jamison, Grigg, Bower, Waite) the match up of Jamison v Richardson was always a worrying prospect for Carlton, and Richo proved to big and strong and actually kicked pretty straight which is not always a common occurrence, and Brown kicked some fantastic crumbing goals as well.

So it all worked out well for me last night with both my bets winning, (Geelong/ Port Adelaide either team to win by under 15.5 points) with the Rich/Carl game in particular just about going to script. If only it were that simple all the time!

I will offer my thoughts on the rest of the weekend’s matches when I get a chance.
:D

Chad Cornes is great value not matter what the cost, Deledio is a great talent hopefully this will be the year he really breaks out. He's going to play a lot up forward so hopefully he gets plenty of supply from the tigers midfield. Good Luck with your fantasy team Canary! I was slack and wasn't able to interchange my team before the first match so could be a bad start for me!

How are you doing Chico?

After round 4 i am sitting proudly in 17th overall and have the lead in the international table by over 150 points! :D

Not having a very good round 5 tho as i finally join the masses and begin struggling with my backs. Prolly dropped the ball a bit not bringing in Austin Wonaeamirri this week, just hoping Bowden returns sooner rather than later.
