TURKISH CUP FINAL

In its history of 45 years, Turkish Cup was won by Galatasaray 14 times, Besiktas and Trabzonspor 7 times, Fenerbahce 4 times, Altay, Ankaragucu, Goztepe, Genclerbirligi and Kocaelispor 2 times, Eskisehirspor, Bursaspor and Sakaryaspor 1 time. Tonight the battle will determine the 46. winner between Genclerbirligi and Kayserispor. Game will be held in Bursa at 8:00 pm by Turkish time or 6:00 pm with British time.

If Genclerbirligi could not manage to guarantee to stay in division last weekend then I would definitely write a different article and send a different pick. But things have changed. Genclerbirligi played a difficult game last week against Fenerbahce who was fighting for at least a Champions League qualification. Actually Genclerbirligi did very well that game and played fully motivated. In the 30. minute Kahe did a fantastic shot from the narrow angle. Genclerbirligi benefited from Zico’s mistake which he had let Maldovan in the first 11. But once he was taken out from the game Fenerbahce started to become dangerous and found an equalizing goal in the very late of 1. half Genclerbirligi could not avoid Fenerbahce to reach the 3. goal and open a 2 goal difference but still played very well as one of their ball hit the bar and kept the last 10 minutes 3-2 and gave some stress to Fenerbahce fans.

Kayserispor played away to Bursaspor last Sunday. Their squad was poor as coach Kafkas made the squad with mostly young players who could not find chance during the season. Kayserispor leaded the game in the beginning of first half and showed a good performance by not letting Bursa kick the net. Even though this was not an important game for both teams and even though Kayseri was playing with young players and substitutes they managed to beat Bursaspor. Bursaspor really tried to equalize the game but unfortunately luck did not like them very much.

Both teams desire this cup very much and both teams have enough power and strength to achieve this. Kayseri bought Julius Aghahowa and Salomon Olembe (from Wigan-national players of Cameroon and Nigeria) in order to achieve their best in UEFA next year as if they can be the Turkish Cup winner. I believe the game will be very though and I believe Kayseri and Genclerbirligi will play very carefully and very organized. I except a low scoring game and a possibility of. But I believe Kayseri will be the team lifting up the cup in the end of the game and going UEFA next year.
