Jose Manuel Lara is a journeyman spanish golfer who is having a resurgence in his career. Every countryman enjoys playing in his own country, and this is of course alot more prevelant on the european tour, where they play in a different country every week. This weeks Spanish Open is being played on a course in Seville which has only been played on once on tour back in 2004. Lara played in that event, and made the cut, only to fade to a mid field position at the weekend. That brief flirt with the course is something that not many here will have had, and that applies to dear old monty who I think will struggle here this week.

Colin was married last week for the second time, and his head will be happy for the first time in years since his unhappy split with his first wife. I think this will be a positive thing for Monty, but not yet. He was on his honeymoon last week in Venice and will surely not have been concentrating, let alone practicing for this event. Even without this massive "life event" occuring, Monty has had a pretty liserable year, failing to qualify for the masters for the first time in over 10 years being a "highlight".

Lara on the meanwhile has a great record in his home land as his record shows.....

In the spanish open he has finished 3rd and 12th, Mallorca open 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 10th and 11th, Madrid open 6th, 18th and 19th, Canaries open 7th. I think you get the picture !!!

Sufficed to say Lara loves Spain, is in good form ( 9th last week in portugal ) and is playing against a bloke who last week was swigging Champagne in Venice with his new wife. Surely this is a big bet for Lara to see of Monty over 72.
