Athlone are team that are good to bet against. They had only one bright performance, winning at Monaghan. But it was only cause of Mons bad performance (fans say worst in the league so far). Except that Athlone managed to stay unbeaten in all three home games versus Waterford (2nd), Limerick (7th) and Kildare (10th). Not really the brightest performances in any of those games, but Athlone problems are also with missing players. They miss few regulars in every match, including this one where they will miss five first team regulars. Namely Ciaran Kelly, Des Hope and Claudio Nardone who are injured, then Jim Sheridan who is on honeymoon and Davy Byrne who is suspended. Niall Scullion is a major doubt as well.

Dundalk are my personal favorites for the title (and promotion). For two years in a row they've been close, you know what they say - 'third luck' ... They've failed to win only twice this season, both times away, to their promotion rivals - Shelbourne and Sporting Fingal. In game vs Shels they had two players sent off and still were the better team. Match against Sporting was different story as it could go either way. In all other games they've won, including wins against other promotional candidates Waterford and Longford. They are sitting on the top of the table, with three points more then Waterford but with game in hand (this one). They are one of the most efficient teams and have currently the best defense in the league. For this match they won't have major injury worries, but striker Vaughan and winger Davie O’Connor are both questionable.

Conclusion:

Dundalk is one of the teams with Premier League potential. They don't have any important injury worries, while home team has few important players missing and are overall in really bad form. Athlone managed to keep the clean sheet only once in seven games, Dundalk failed to score only once (vs Shels, who have are joint on top with them on goals against column). Seems to me that Dundalk is underestimated here, i expected -0,75 handicap and this is much more then my expectation. I've waited the day of the match to see the team news, but even it goes in away win favor. What to say, expect Dundalk win...
