Manchester United hope to imitate their domestic success when they take on hosts Barcelona in the first-leg of the Champions League semis on Wednesday.

Here are my reasons for this pick:

First of all, Sir Alex Ferguson now has weapons as lethal as he had back in 99, the year that witnessed his first Champions League success. Ronaldo, the Premiership most prolific player, and Rooney are ready to conquer the Barca defense, which is already depleted by the absence of captain Puyol and probably Thuram as well.

Second, Henry, who knows a lot about United from his long spell with Arsenal, is doubtful as he missed the last two training sessions with high temperature.

Third, Manchester have proved this season that they can play away from home just like the way they play at Old Trafford. Beating Roma 2-0 was a good example of that.

Verdict: Puyol is suspended, Thuram is doubtful, and Abidal is at his worst against the best Manchester team in years. Definitely my money will be on the Reds on level ball.
