Super League - Olympiakos v Larisa AEL
6 April 2008

Rooney (England)

The race for the Greek Championship this year seems a very difficult riddle for anyone to solve. Olympiakos is leading the tables with 61 point followed closely by PAO and AEK with 60 and 59 points respectively. However Olympiakos won 3 controversial points after an appeal against Kalamaria, who were deducted 4 points although they won 1-0 during the normal match! This is Greek football. Olympiakos were destroyed by AEK last week with the emphatic 4-0 and then they won midweek for the Greek Cup 3-2 away to Thrasyvoulos which is a 3rd division team. 6 goals in 2 games that will worry me if I was their coach.
Olympiakos although they have good players seem to lack confidence at the moment and unless something radical happens quickly they will drop points again. Some may argue that the heart of the Champions will play its part towards the end of the Championship but I think that Larisa are playing fantastic at the moment, keeping cleaning sheets and playing attractive footy. The home side may miss Torosidis (I think he will play but not 100% ready) while Larisa have several problems with Kotsolis missing, Galitsios and Venetidis who stayed at Larisa, maybe better for the away team as especially the last 2 were too red to play (Galitsios already signed for Olympiakos)..
Larisa still has the brazilian magician Cleyton and Bayakoko who can mess up Olympiakos defence. I reckon Larisa will net at least 1 ball at Nikopolidis nest. They know they will need more as the referee won't be reluctant to give a penalty to aid the home side, if they seem to struggle. That harsh reality I have to respect. If Greek football was played only on the pitch I will eagerly go for 6/10 for this match..
** There are rumours that young Larisa's coach Donis who played for Blackburn in the past and declared that his dream is to work in the Premier League, may have a point to prove today as he is speculated to join rivals AEK Athens next season.
** 10 Bet has not yet posted any Assian Handicaps for the Greek Championship. Surely ain't easy, you wouldn't want to get it wrong boys, would you? If the line is -1.5, +1.5 I am gonna bite a respectable chunk of the away +1.5 too..Awaiting with patience..
