The Italians were somehow frightened not to concede, and despite missing some GREAT chances, it wasn't to be their night. Torres scored on his team's first attempt, and secured a win they never deserved, getting through as a consequence. The Gunners instead could have had a sloppy period of late, but it mostly has to due with unluck rather than poor football, they can thrash Liverpool very well on a good day.
